The lighting workshop of the Professional Lighting Designers Association (PLDA) took place 2005 in Winterthur / CH. The goal was to transform a multi-storey car park into a more comfortable and safe place by the use of an adequate illumination. The members worked out a concept and translated it into action afterwards, all within a week.
The car park is still in use, for that reason the inner illumination had to cover all aspects of light limits, safety and protection against dazzle.

mit PLDA lighting equipment.
Inside the car park are the remains of an old automatic parking system, these rests are mounted in the middle of the road. They got some accents by light and serve to guarantee a better orientation; they enable the driver to find his position between the parking rows much quicker now.
The illuminated columns give an extra accent to the buildings construction and provides good basic light by reflection. The straight architecture's atmosphere is supported by the diagonal shadows of the columns bases. The ceiling of the single parking lots are illuminated by orange bulbs, shedding a home like, warm light. The walls are lit with blue light, which creates an imaginary greater width, expanding the space optically.
After light changes the car park's customers actually started to feel safer and more comfortable.
